Buliisa County, representing Buliisa district, won the 2018 CNOOC Uganda Limited sponsored Bunyoro Amasaza Cup, following their 2-1 defeat of Hoima municipality that represented Hoima municipal at Sir Kyatiri grounds in Bululi County in Masindi district.
The match was presided over by the Prime Minister Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Andrew Byakutaga and attended by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) members.
The Prime Minister thanked CNOOC for their continued contributions to this region. “I believe that the energy and talent exhibited in this tournament will inspire even more young people to develop and grow their talent further not just in Bunyoro but also take on national and international sports,” the King commented.
The month-long tournament that is aimed at strengthening ties in the Bunyoro- Kitara Kingdom attracted seven districts with 13 counties in the kingdom including Kagadi, Kakumiro, Kiryandongo, Bulliisa, Hoima, Masindi and Kibaale.
Aminah Bukenya, Public relations Supervisor at CNOOC congratulated the players upon a successful tournament which culminated into the finals. “When we began operations in Bunyoro, we made a commitment to be part of all-round growth in our area of operation. And over the years, we have seen this commitment come to life through various local programs.”
“Sponsoring the Bunyoro Amasaza Cup for the fifth year is a demonstration of CNOOC Uganda’s dedication to the growth of sport in this region. Last year, the tournament was played across all sub counties in Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom and attracted 14 teams from 13 counties.
