Ugandans will now be able to access information and data regarding oil and gas and mining online when an extractive industry web portal dubbed ‘Using Extractive Industry Data’ or USEDATA is launched on Monday 27 March 2017.
Juliet Sakindi, the Operations Manager at Montrose in an email said the USEDATA - ‘Using Extractive Industry Data’ - programme is making data and information related to the extractive industry sector (oil, gas and mining) more accessible, understandable and useable for governments, civil society, extractive industry and local communities in Uganda.
“To achieve this, USEDATA is designing and creating a series of user-friendly and interactive online and offline products, which are based on themes relevant to the extractives sector, the needs and interests of our key stakeholders, and specific to the Ugandan context.”
She explained that the USEDATA online portal displays general data and information on Uganda’s extractive industry as well as data on some of the key thematic areas of interest including land and resettlement, artisanal and small scale mining, legislative and policy frameworks, social performance, local content and environmental and social impacts.
The portal is interactive and visually engaging through a variety of multimedia, including maps, infographics, animations, film and images.
