Motor Sport Welcomes Rajiv As He Unveils Rally Car

On the road, motorsport is a very competitive sport, but off the track, it is a sport of brotherhood, at least that is what was exhibited at the first ever rally experience event where Rajiv Ruparelia, the newest kid on the rallying block, unveiled his new rally car, a Volkswagen Polo, at Speke Hotel’s Rock Bar.

The rally experience at Rock Bar was attended by the most influential people in the motorsport world including officials from various motorsport clubs. Speaking at the event, many of them welcomed and wished Rajiv Ruparelia Rally Team the best and offered to help him acclimatize into the sport.

“Rajiv, we welcome you into this sport. You are the new kid on the block. The good thing is you have come with a good car,” one official said. “We ask that you inject in more money into your adventure as this is a sport that requires money,” he added.

Rajiv promised to give his best explaining that Rajiv Ruparelia Rally Team is a brand that is not just about rallying but also supporting the community. The team will levereage on their connection with Ruparelia Foundation and Rajiv Ruparelia Scholarship at Victoria University to give back to community.  

KISU Wins 5th FUFA Corporate Football Tournament

Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU) took advantage of penalty shootout to win the 5th edition of FUFA Corporate Football Tournament. They saw of Corporate League team after a nil-all draw in the final. The penalties ended 3-1. This took place on Saturday, April, 27th at KISU in Bukoto, Kampala.

The three KISU penalties were converted by Phillip Tumwine, Saad Musonera and Robinson Katabarwa while John Musisi converted the lone penalty for Corporate League. The two sides had earlier faced off in another 1-1 stalemate at the group stage. KISU was rewarded with winner’s medals, a trophy, a cash prize of Shs3m and certificate of participation.

The other teams that took part in the one day football showcase included Nile Special, Sogea Satom, Airtel Uganda, Kyagalanyi Coffee, Diamond Trust Bank, UPL Secretariat, National Population Council, Civil Aviation Authority, KISU, Corporate League Team, Ecobank, FUFA FM, Red Pepper, Bidco Uganda.

The team captain of KISU Tumwine thanked his teammates for working hard, the reason they won the tournament. “We came here to just compete and we didn’t think of winning the championship. I thank my teammates for the commitment and hard work,” said Tumwine.

Miss Curvy Contestants Get Victoria University Scholarships

The overall winner of the ongoing Miss Curvy will get a full scholarship while the other 24 contestants will get 70 percent scholarships on tuition. The contestants can choose to study a Masters, Bachelors, Diploma, Foundation programs or a short course in Public Speaking and Presentation.

Victoria University is a premium University accredited by the National Council of Higher Education and Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council. The private university owned by the Ruparelia Group has been in existence since 2010.

The university located on Jinja Road, opposite Dewinton Road has four faculties - Health Sciences, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology and the Department of Petroleum and Energy Studies.

It also offer short courses and foundation courses for international students. The Miss Curvy contestants can chose to study a course in any of the faculties. “We appreciate Miss Curvy for organizing this event to appreciate the participants and plus size females,” Victoria University said in a statement.

“Victoria University is happy to be partnering with Miss Curvy for purposes of enhancing career growth and positive life enrichment of the Miss Curvy contestants. The University is awarding the overall winner of the Miss Curvy with a 100% scholarship on tuition,”

“The remaining 24 contestants will be awarded with a 70% scholarship on tuition in addition to free short course in Public Speaking and Presentation. Our aim in partnering is to impart and provide knowledge to the contestants through the scholarships; this will result into career growth, Assoc. Prof. Krishna N. Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Victoria University said.

The CEO of Miss Curvy Uganda Ms. Annie Mungoma appreciated institutions such as Victoria University that have come out to ensure that the contestants are skilled and acquire knowledge through the scholarships which they can take up in the desired degree of their choice. “This will have direct impact and will enhance their career growth and have something to hope for in future,” she said.

South African Motorsport Academy Says Rajiv Fit To Rally

Rajiv Ruparelia is entering the world of motor sport after undergoing training and assessment at South Africa’s RallyStar Motorsport Academy.

The respected academy, is located on 297 Rigel Avenue South Waterkloof Ridge, in the administrative city of Pretoria, Gauteng, have since qualified him after he proved that he has the tactics and ability to rally.

RallyStar director, Leon Botha, in a recommendation letter dated April 16, 2019, certified that Mr Rajiv Ruparelia has received specialised training at the academy.

“In contrast with some students, where one is slightly hesitant to issue an unconditional recommendation-based on talent and application thereof, I have no hesitation in stating that Rajiv has been the best experience I have had or shall I say enjoyed, from an inexperienced rally driver,” Botha wrote.

He added: “Hard to believe but I have established his inexperience to be true.” Botha further explained that he did establish that Rajiv has experience in other fields such as quads, motocross bikes and buggies as well as tarmac driving.

“…but despite this, I was still pleasantly surprised at his ability and car control in a powerful rally car.”

“I therefore underwrite his participation in the sport of rallying with a navigator with the required ability and preferably early on in Rajiv’s career.” “Rallystar welcomes him into a sport that I believe he has been born for,” Botha concluded.

Victoria University Welcomes New Students At Fresher’s Ball

The partying mood was on Saturday evening as Victoria University Kampala welcomed new students at a pompous fresher’s ball which was held at Kampala Parents School in Naguru, a Kampala suburb under the theme dynamic duo.

The fresher’s ball started as early as 6pm on a laydown Saturday evening before the energetic students fired it up to hype the tempo and vibe. Food and drinks were on the house to further fine tune the evening. The guild president Maria Peggy Nabunya welcomed the new students to Victoria University.

Namugerwa Sherry, a Bachelor of tourism and hotel management student said she chose Victoria University because it is international and it is not congested with very many students. “I love where it is located, in the middle of the city and academically it is a good university. Lecturers come on time and they never miss lectures,”

“I expect a lot from this University for example during internship, especially for my course, it is easy to get a placement in the Ruparalia Group and Speke Group of Hotels. It is easy to get a job after graduating,” She said.

Placid Mubito, a student from Rwanda, said when he reached at Victoria University, he was emotionally touched by the quality of services provided by the University.

Mubito who is studying Social work and social administration degree said he was inspired to join Victoria University by testimonies from students who have studied from the University.

"Victoria University is going to help me to improve my skills as a social worker because it is what i have been doing in my country Rwanda and here in Uganda. Also, Victoria University reaches out to the community, it is a good place to practice what you learn. The way they teach is motivating.” Mubito said in an interview.

Ruparelia Foundation Offers Scholarship To Young Rapper Fresh Kid

Ever since seven year old rapper and singer Fresh Kid real names Patrick Senyonjo emerged on the local music scene, he has attracted controversy and praise in the same measure. But in all this, his lucky star continues to shine brighter.

Fresh Kid has come under scrutiny for missing school to do musical shows and promote his music during school hours causing many people to believe that he doesn’t go to school. It also emerged that at his tender age, and because of his talent, Fresh Kid is the bread winner for the family. His poor parents cannot afford to send him to a proper school.

To save the situation, Rajiv Ruparelia, a director at Ruparelia Group, announced that Fresh Kid has been awarded a scholarship to study at Kampala Parents School via the Ruparelia Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Group. Kampala Parents is owned by the Ruparelia Group.

“Today I met a young man called Fresh Kid - I was moved by his ambition being only 7 years old. I would love to see him become a guide and inspiration to many young people out there hence, Ruparelia Foundation is presenting this young man with a full scholarship from the Ruparelia Foundation to go to Kampala Parents School.” Rajiv said on his social media pages.






Hard Fighting Kampala Parents Wins Ruparelia Sports Gala

Kampala Parents School (KPS) overcome last year’s heartache to win this year overall trophy at the annual Ruparelia Sport Day which took place at Kampala International School Uganda with 475 points.

Last year’s eventual winners Speke Resort Munyonyo came in third place with while Rosebud emerged the second with 395 points The 4th Annual Gala attracted about 800 participants from the subsidiary companies of the Ruparelia group.

Sheena Ruparelia, a director of Ruparelia Group said the event was aimed at promoting team work, physical fitness and good relationship among their employees. She encouraged employees to always take advantage of such events to showcase their talents.

Ruparelia Group has invested in sectors like banking, insurance, hospitality, conventions and leisure centres, education, real estate and agriculture.

In the hospitality sector, the group established Kabira Country Club, Speke Hotel, Speke Apartments, Speke Resort and Conference Centre, Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort, Dolphin Suites, Tourist Hotel, Forest Cottages and Speke Resort Bujagali Falls.

In the education it has Public International School and Victoria University Kampala. The group owns Sanyu Fm, a pioneer local radio station, own two of the leading flower farmers and exporters in the country, Rosebud and Premier Roses.

Under Meera Investments and Crane Management, the group has established some of the country’s iconic arcades, hotels, apartments and real estate establishments. In the financial sector, the group owns Goldstar insurance, forex bureaus and a commercial bank.

The  companies participated in sports disciplines including football,  wheel borrow race, athletics, egg and spoon race and sack race, tug of war, Scrabble, among others.

Rajiv’s Naiya Recognized As Singer Ykee Benda Appreciates Fans

Muscian Ykee Benda, real names Wycliffe Tugume, put up a spirited performance to a fully packed Victoria Hall at Kampala Serena Hotel. The concert dubbed Singa was actually a sell out; it received maximum support corporate companies and fans who parted with their hard money to ‘represent.’  

In the process, Ykee Benda, staging his maiden concert, was overwhelmed by emotions because the turn up was overflowing. The concert’s success didn’t however come on a silver platter. Ykee Benda worked hard to earn the confidence and support of corporate institutions.

And in the same spirit, the singer appreciated them in egual measures. At the concert, Ykee Benda specifically recognized Victoria University’s Naiya Ruparelia. She is also the wife of Rajiv Ruparelia, son of Sudhir Ruparelia. Victoria University supported the concert as a sponsor. Naiya received a certificate from Ykee Benda.

Kitunga Alumni Wins 2019 Kabira Football Tournament

Kitunga Alumni Football Team Sunday emerged winners of the second edition of the now annual Kabira Football Tournament organized by Kabira Country Club with technical support from Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA).

Kitunga who beat FUFA FM 3-1 in penalties after a one all draw is an alumnus of Muntuyera High School in Ntugamo western Uganda. They saw off Kingin Pharm in another penalty shootout at the semifinal stage. The youthful team won a cash prize of Shs1m and medal.

To make the finals, FUFA FM saw of a stubborn and entertaining Dream Chasers whose artistry produced no goals in the other semifinal. Dream Chasers would go on to lose in the losers match to determine the third placed team. They lost to Kingin Pharm.

It was a day for Kitunga Alumni whose goal keeper Abel Atukunda was named best goal keeper of the tournament while Obar Ahereza was named Most Valuable Player. Dream Chasers’ Innocent Atiku was top scorer with five goals.

The overall winner went home with a cash prize of Shs1m, second placed team got Shs500k and the third placed team got Shs350k. The tournament was sponsored by Hisense Uganda.

Teams Grouped Ahead of Kabira Football Tournament

A total of 20 football teams have been drawn into four groups each containing four teams ahead of the now annual Kabira Football Tournament organized by Kabira Country Club and supported by Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA).

Kabira Country Club general manager Rakesh Hurrychurn told a press conference meeting to launch the tournament that they are trying to promote football and help corporate companies to network. The one -day tournament will take place on 31st March at Kabira Country club.

“Every year we are planning to make the tournament better, we have to make a land mark. The second edition is going to be exciting and very organized compared to the inaugural tournament last year.”

“We would like to thank the teams that have registered and sponsors that include Hisense together with Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) for the technical support. The objective of the tournament is to promote football since it’s a great sport and also a tool for networking among the companies” said Mr.Rakesh added.

Said Esther Musoke Marketing Manager FUFA applauded Kabira saying that ‘when organisations come together and take on football as something we can push forward.’ On the technical side of the upcoming social event, Musoke said the tournament will be government by the reles and regulations of the federation.

Each team will have six player on the pitch and ten players on the team sheet. Twenty team will take part and compete for the cash prizes of Shs1m for the winners, Shs500k for the first runner up and SHs300k for the second runners up.

Musoke said players currently licensed by FUFA or have been holding the federation license in the last two FUFA season will be ineligible. Each football game will have two halves of not more than five minutes.
