Victoria Café, which is part of Speke Group of Hotels, has announced that it is quitting Victoria Towers on Jinja Road and relocating to the swanky Kitante neighborhood at the newly opened Speke Apartments Kitante.
This will most likely come as a big blow for students of Victoria University who over the years have identified with this classy restaurant – not just in the name but also proximity.
The restaurant has been occupying one of the spaces on the ground floor facing the main road. Management is still tight lipped on the reasons why they are quitting Jinja Road but it is looks like the reasons are purely inspired by business factors.
The Cafe was officially launched in 2016 at a glamorous event attended by management of Victoria University and students with an aim of improving student's social life at campus.
The cafeteria was, according to then Guild President Keith Mugabi, promised to them by Rajiv Ruparelia, the promoter of the University, to serve students.
Joseph Nyakaana, who was the acting Vice Chancellor then, while launching the Cafeteria, said the Cafeteria was offered to the University as a tool for students to live a good life while at campus.
In 2018, Victoria Café won the Best 2018 Cuisine Award at the Ekkula Pearl of Africa Tourism Awards due to its delicious “Local, Indian, International and its own made Cuisines”
