The hotel business in Uganda has passed through a series of transformation over the years but none was a game changer like Speke Resort & Conference Centre Munyonyo (or just Speke Resort Munyonyo) and later its sister neighbor Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort.
Sitting on about 92 acres of land on the shores of Lake Victoria Speke Resort Munyonyo best identifies and describes that part of Kampala City - Munyonyo. The five star hotel is conveniently located 12 km from Uganda’s capital Kampala.
The Resort offers the ultimate in ‘luxury accommodation’ and ‘finest conference and business meeting location’ in Uganda and East Africa. The government of Uganda chose it to host visiting Presidents and Prime Ministers at the 2007 Commonwealth Conference (CHOGM, a job they did well.
The Resort has 59 Presidential suites with a unique blend of traditional Ugandan décor and ultramodern furnishings, in addition to cottages, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments or studio rooms. The hotel, according to Ajit Singh, the room’s division manager at the Resort, has a total of 472 rooms.
“[I] stayed at Speke Resort, just a wonderful place, the weekend evenings, music grilled fish, everything amazing - great view [of the] lake and a wonderful swimming pool. The staff, especially Prashant Shetty, an amazing person, his professionalism is incredible. Great place!” one customer wrote on TripAdvisor.
The Resort also offers 10 state-of-the-art conference rooms including a 1,000-seat ballroom and 9 multi-functional meeting rooms that accommodate groups of 10-300 people. It offers internet and secretarial services like printing and photocopying documents.
Other leisure facilities include an Olympic size swimming pool, an equestrian centre and a choice of fine bars and restaurants, all with different international menus. Many couples have had their wedding reception held at the resort or taken their wedding photos at the Resort.
“[A] very convenient and pleasant premise for a conference, good service, and staff is extremely hospitable, excellent food, nice sceneries and very comfortable rooms. A very relaxing and enjoyable place to stay for business or holidays.” Another customer, like many who have had a chance to experience the finesse of Speke Resort, wrote on TripAdvisor.
